“Historically, Large Black Pigs reaching 600 to 800 lbs were an essential source of fats, bacon, and very flavorful tender lean meat due to the lack of back fat. 19th Century domestication in Devon and Cornwall was likely driven by the heat tolerant, prolific foraging native breeds of Spanish Ibérico, Caribbean Majorcan, and French Noir de Bigorre.”
Piglets $200 each in fall, young pigs $500, market weight of 200 lbs+ $1200.
Purebred Large Black Hogs in our closed herd. We started this herd from a registered bakers dozen of the last 150 LBH pigs remaining in the US. Some ranchers move to AI from imported semen to generate a British like show variation. Our boar and sows have competitively bred for self selecting generations thriving on our native open fields, acorns, woods, and lowlands.
